THE INDUCTION OF THE SECOND GRAND PRIOR AND
SPIRITUAL PROTECTOR OF THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR OF WALES
Saturday 22 June 2019
The Chaplain of Wales, The Chancellor of Wales, The Marshal and Deputy Marshal of Wales stand beside the recently elected Second Grand Prior of Wales.
The Chaplain of Wales says: Lord have mercy upon us.
All respond: Christ have mercy upon us.
The Chaplain of Wales says: Lord have mercy upon us.
Presenting the Holy Bible
The Chaplain of Wales says to the new Grand Prior of Wales:
My
dear Brother-in-Christ :
to
keep you ever mindful of the law and the Gospel of God
as the
Rule for the whole life of Christian people,
I
present you with this Holy Bible,
the
most valuable thing that this world affords.
The Chancellor of Wales says:
Here
is Wisdom;
This
is the royal Law;
These
are the lively Oracles of God.
The Annointing
The Chaplain of Wales takes holy Oil and anoints the new Grand Prior of Wales:
On the palms of both hands, saying:
Be your hands anointed with holy Oil.
On the forehead, saying:
Be your head anointed with holy Oil:
as kings, priests, and prophets were anointed:
And as Solomon was anointed king
by Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet,
so be you anointed and blessed as our Second Grand Prior
of Wales
to serve the Knights and Dames of The Grand Priory of
Wales
of the Order of Knights Templar of the Temple of
Jerusalem.
In the name of the + Father,
and of the + Son,
and of the + Holy
Spirit.
Amen.
The Regalia
The Chancellor of Wales places the Insignia of The Grand Prior and Spiritual Protector of The Grand Priory of Wales around the neck of The Grand Prior of Wales and The Marshal places The Grand Prior’s Sash upon The Grand Prior of Wales.
The Blessing
The Chaplain of Wales pronounces a Blessing over The Grand Prior of Wales:
Our
Lord Jesus Christ,
who
was anointed with the Oil of gladness,
by his
holy Anointing pour down upon your head and heart
the Blessing
of almighty God,
and
prosper the works of your hands:
that
by the assistance of His heavenly grace
you
may serve and advise, provide guidance and good counsel,
to the
Knights and Dames of our Order in Wales
in
peace, love and godliness,
wisely,
justly, and religiously,
and at
last be made a partaker of His eternal kingdom,
through
the same Jesus Christ our Lord. + Amen.
Presenting the Staff of Office
The Marshal of Wales shall bring the Staff of Office to the Chancellor of Wales.
The Chancellor of Wales says to The Grand Prior of Wales:
Receive this staff, an ensign of care and love.
The Chancellor of Wales delivers the Staff into The Grand Prior’s left hand, saying:
This Staff of Office is a symbol of equity and mercy. So be merciful;
“Preach the Word of
God. Be persistent whether the time
is
favourable or not. Patiently correct,
rebuke,
and encourage your people with good teaching.” [2 Timothy 4: 2]
Protect and cherish the just, and
lead our Knights and Dames in Wales
in the way wherein we should go.
Presenting the new Grand Prior
The Chaplain of Wales, The Chancellor of Wales, The Marshal and Deputy Marshal of Wales present The Grand Prior and Spiritual Protector of Wales to the Knights and Dames of the Order and to the Congregation. [Applause].
The Knight's Prayer
Led by The Chaplain of Wales, The Knights and Dames say together:
Form in me a knight’s
heart for you :
Fulfilling my life, choosing
what you bring
that will advance me, and not those things
which drag me into
the mud;
Strong in my work, not
seeing it as a
burden that imposes itself on me, but a
mission with which you
have entrusted me;
Heroic in suffering, a real
soldier
bearing
my cross, a true Cyrenian,
carrying
the cross of others;
Compassionate with the world,
foregoing
its vanities, but sacrificing
nothing to its principles;
Magnanimous with people, loyal to
everyone, biased to the poor and children,
and
gently leading my loved ones to you;
Revering my superiors,
seeing
in their authority
the
compelling beauty of your face;
Respecting myself but not
inward-looking,
always
leaning on you;
Generously giving to you,
O
Christ of Galilee;
Proud to live to serve you,
Happy to die to lose myself in you. Composed by the Chaplain-General of the Order Translation by the Grand Chaplain-General of Wales Amen.
The Chaplain of Wales says:
Ever loving God, we give you thanks and
praise,
that you heard the earnest prayers
and
desires of your faithful servants,
and when the time was right you
brought about
the Foundation of The Priory of Wales and subsequently
the Establishment of The Grand Priory of
Wales
of your Supreme Military Order of The Temple
of Jerusalem.
Grant to the Knights and Dames of the Order,
and especially those present here today,
your Peace in this life
and in the world to come Life everlasting.
All: Amen.
THE BLESSING OF THE GRAND PRIOR’S SWORD
Lord
our God, powerful, just and merciful, accept our humble prayer and send
your heavenly blessing onto this sword.
My friends, this sword represents a Knight's right to invoke God’s Justice. For Chivalry is to maintain justice, and the double edge of the blade ever reminds us to temper justice with mercy. Let it be used to protect the innocent and aid the helpless. As the steel of the sword must be tempered in fire and water, so must the soul of the Knight be tempered by adversity and compassion. We pray that God will give to those, receiving the accolade today, strength and wisdom; that they may protect and defend our Order, the poor, the widows and children, and His holy inheritance on Earth.
So may now the Blessing of the Lord of All:
~ the + Father, the + Son, and the + Holy Spirit ~
Come down upon and remain with this symbol of God’s Justice and His Glory and the honour of The Supreme Military Order of Temple of Jerusalem, for in His Holy Name, we pray.
All: Amen.
THE KNIGHTS’ PRAYER
The Knights and Dames of the Order only then say together:
Heavenly Father;
May we be ready each day,
to go forth armed with your power,
seeking adventure on the high road,
to right wrong, to overcome evil,
to suffer wounds and endure pain if need be;
But in all things to serve you –
bravely, faithfully and joyfully;
That at the end of our labour, there be no dishonour;
Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Saviour.
Amen
HYMN
Reader: The Chaplain of Wales
2 Corinthians 6: 1-10
1 In our work together with God, then, we beg you who have received God's grace not to let it be wasted. 2 Hear what God says:
“When the time came for me to show you favour,
I heard you;
when the day arrived for me to save you,
I helped you.” [Isaiah 49:8]
Listen! This is the hour to receive God's favour; today is the day to be saved!
3 We do not want anyone to find fault with our work, so we try not to put obstacles in anyone's way. 4 Instead, in everything we do we show that we are God's servants by patiently enduring troubles, hardships, and difficulties. 5 We have been beaten, jailed, and mobbed; we have been overworked and have gone without sleep or food. 6 By our purity, knowledge, patience, and kindness we have shown ourselves to be God's servants — by the Holy Spirit, by our true love, 7 by our message of truth, and by the power of God. We have righteousness as our weapon, both to attack and to defend ourselves. 8 We are honoured and disgraced; we are insulted and praised. We are treated as liars, yet we speak the truth; 9 as unknown, yet we are known by all; as though we were dead, but, as you see, we live on. Although punished, we are not killed; 10 although saddened, we are always glad; we seem poor, but we make many people rich; we seem to have nothing, yet we really possess everything.
